To mark VJ Day, join author and filmmaker Phil Craig as he explores some of the geopolitical implications of the Allied victory in the Second World War.
About the event
In 1945, Allied efforts across Europe and Asia culminated in victory. But the power shifts that followed would reshape empires and usher in a new world.
Introducing his latest book, ‘1945: The Reckoning’, Phil Craig will offer a humane and balanced assessment of what victory in the Second World War truly means.
Stripping away post-war nostalgia, he will expose uncomfortable truths – involving broken promises and bloody betrayal – while also highlighting individual acts of courage and sacrifice.
About the speaker
Phil Craig is a bestselling author and multiple award-winning filmmaker. He built his career working for iconic British TV series ‘World in Action’ and ‘Panorama’, before going on to hold senior positions at the prestigious Brook Lapping production company, Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel. While working at ABC Television in Australia, he ran the entire factual output including its high-profile Anzac centenary project.
During his career, Phil has spent many years researching and reinterpreting the story of Britain and its Empire in the Second World War, including his definitive account ‘1940: Finest Hour’. He now runs the ‘The Scandal Mongers Podcast’.
