About the event

Chelsea Heritage Quarter is taking part in Chelsea in Bloom 2026 with Poseidon and his Chariot, a large-scale floral installation outside the National Army Museum, where ancient mythology, military symbolism and the heritage of Quarter come together.

Created in response to this year’s theme, Out of this World, the installation explores Greek mythology and the symbols found across the Quarter’s heritage and collections. At its centre is Poseidon, one of the most recognisable figures from the ancient world, shown with his chariot, horses and trident, surrounded by a sea floor in full bloom.

Free to visit, on Royal Hospital Road from 18 to 24 May 2026.

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

The installation transforms the space outside the National Army Museum into a mythological floral world. A textured floral sea floor, designed using sustainable flowers, spreads beneath the figure of Poseidon, his chariot and his plunging horses.

THE DESIGN

The installation was designed by Daniela Lane, a floristry student at Capel Manor College, after winning Chelsea Heritage Quarter’s student design competition. Daniela was invited to imagine an installation that responded to this year’s festival theme while drawing on the heritage of the Quarter around it, and her proposal stood out for the way it wove mythology, symbolism and sustainability into a single piece of storytelling.

Throughout the project, Daniela has been supported by Louise Quigley, Head of Floristry at Capel Manor College, London’s environmental college and a long-standing home for emerging talent in the floristry world.

SCULPTED FROM RECYCLED DRIFTWOOD

The sculptural elements of Poseidon and his Chariot were created by artist Harvey Mayson, using recycled driftwood. His work includes Poseidon, his horses and his trident, giving the installation its striking sense of movement and drama.

Together with Daniela’s floral design, Harvey’s sculptural work helps transform the space outside the National Army Museum into an atmospheric scene inspired by sea, story and symbol.
