Follow expert guide Edward Richards on a British Sign Language (BSL) tour focusing on the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century.
About the event
The Napoleonic Wars (1803-15) shaped the fate of Britain, Europe and the world during a decade marked by fighting, negotiation and fear of military dominance.
The conflict saw the French Empire reach new heights as its leader, Napoleon Bonaparte, swept across Europe winning countless victories along the way. It would take a coalition of countries to defeat Napoleon once and for all at Waterloo – one of the most decisive battles in British history.
On this guided gallery tour, Edward Richards will highlight how this conflict evolved across the years, looking at how it was planned, fought and later remembered.
From the uniform and weaponry used by soldiers in the field, the memorabilia of leaders such as Napoleon and the Duke of Wellington to a stunning recreation of the battlefield of Waterloo, the tour will demonstrate why the conflict was so pivotal, while also outlining the daily struggles faced by those who fought it.
About the speaker
Edward Richards has been delivering BSL tours in museums and galleries since 2002, including Tate Modern and the Design Museum. He has led BSL tours at the National Army Museum for over two years.
