About the event
Chelsea Physic Garden is London’s oldest botanic garden with over 4,000 different medicinal, herbal, edible and useful plants.
Founded by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London in 1673 for apprentices to study the medicinal qualities of plants, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.
Visitors can explore London’s oldest botanic garden and experience the delights of the Physic Garden Café.
Throughout the weekend, there will be lots of drop-in activities and tours, such as:
- Family storytelling: Relaxed and fun performances for all the family, led by storyteller Olivia Armstrong.
- Pond-dipping: Explore the wildlife pond and meet some of the amazing pond creatures including water snails, newts, frogs, pond-skaters and more.
- Guided tours: Garden volunteers will show visitors around and discuss the diverse plant collection from all over the world.
Timings of activities will be displayed on information boards on the day. No additional tickets are required apart from Open Day entrance ticket.

Is the Chelsea Physic Garden accessible?Most of the Garden is fully accessible, with the exception of the first floor Gallery at Chelsea Physic Garden which is used only for special events and is only accessible via a narrow 22 step staircase with a handrail.

Bikes (including folding bikes) and scooters are not permitted. There are bike racks located along Royal Hospital Road. These can be used to secure any bikes and scooters.
Please do not secure any bikes or scooters to the railings outside the Royal Hospital Chelsea or Burton Court. Any items secure to these railings will be removed.
