Bestselling author Damien Lewis makes an argument for awarding SAS legend Paddy Mayne a posthumous Victoria Cross.

About the event

Lieutenant-Colonel ‘Paddy’ Mayne is a legendary figure in the history of the Special Forces. A celebrated sportsman with a turbulent character, he played a vital role in the early successes of the Special Air Service (SAS), becoming one of its most important commanders.

But despite Paddy’s courageous service in North Africa and Germany during the Second World War, his recommendation for the Victoria Cross (VC) was later downgraded to a Distinguished Service Order (DSO). As Paddy’s story has become more well known, with authors and directors alike highlighting his achievements, the argument that he should be awarded a VC has continued to grow.

Author Damien Lewis will make the case for Paddy’s VC, arguing that his daring and often selfless acts make him the perfect candidate for this highest award for gallantry.
