About the event

Themistocles, the instrumental political and military figure of the ancient world, best known for his role in the defeat of the Persians at the Battle of Salamis, which cemented him as an icon of the age. However, Michael Scott’s new history of Themistocles explores the man behind the legend. This new history of one of Greece’s greatest heroes charts his complicated life by exploring a life at the dawn of democracy and in midst of war.

About the speaker

Michael Scott is professor of classics and ancient history and pro-vice-chancellor for international affairs at the University of Warwick. He is also the author of several books about the ancient world as well as the presenter of multiple documentaries for the BBC, ITV, National Geographic and SBS.

Please do not secure any bikes or scooters to the railings outside the Royal Hospital Chelsea or Burton Court. Any items secure to these railings will be removed.
