About the event

No Future: Punk, Politics and British Youth Culture, 1976 – 1984 is a landmark history which explores the era that punk movement. Punk evolves as a fashion, a musical form, an attitude and an aesthetic. During a period of deep social fragmentation, violence, high unemployment and socio-economic change, punk rejuvenated and re-energised British youth culture, inserting marginal voices and political ideas into pop. This talk celebrates a new edition of No Future released to mark 50 years since the punk movement began.

About the speaker

Matthew Worley is a Professor of Modern History at the University of Reading. The focus of his research is on subcultures of the in-20th Century Britain as well as history of the Labour movement and left-wing politics in the 20th Century.
