About the event
Over 80 years ago, London faced night after night of bombing by the Luftwaffe in what became known as the Blitz. Chelsea suffered air raids until end of the Second World War.
Dr Emily Mayhew explores the impact of the Blitz on Chelsea’s people and places. Uncover the sites of the most devastating attacks, including Turk’s Row, where a V1 rocket killed scores of American servicemen and women.
The walking tour starts and ends at the National Army Museum. It will last around an hour and a half.
About the speaker
Dr Emily Mayhew is a military medical historian specialising in the study of severe casualty, its infliction, treatment and long-term outcomes in 20th and 21st century warfare. She is historian in residence in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London, and author of ‘Wounded: From Battlefield to Blight 1914-1918’, which was shortlisted for the Wellcome Prize 2014.

Bikes (including folding bikes) and scooters are not permitted. There are bike racks located along Royal Hospital Road. These can be used to secure any bikes and scooters.
Please do not secure any bikes or scooters to the railings outside the Royal Hospital Chelsea or Burton Court. Any items secure to these railings will be removed.
Walks will continue in wet conditions, so please dress appropriately.
Please adhere to the age range specified for events on the listings page and if appropriate please book a ticket for your child. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult approved by the parent/guardian. This person can accompany a maximum of four children per event. Where permitted, any child over the age of two needs their own seat for events.
The event organiser cannot be responsible for unsupervised children.
