About the event
Chelsea in the 1960s was the glamorous epitome of swinging London. Home to dazzling figures such as Mick Jagger, Judy Garland, and Mary Quant, it was also a place where filmmakers and writers explored the dark underbelly of British society, with its class tensions, corruption and Cold War paranoia.
Join professional guide Geoff Levett for a walking tour of major Chelsea landmarks and off-beat byways, with a focus on 1960s fashion, film, music, and politics. Discover how this era helped cement Chelsea’s reputation as the centre of Bohemian London.
The tour will start and end at the National Army Museum and will last approximately an hour and a half.
About the speaker
Geoff Levett is a professional tour guide with 20 years’ experience of exploring London. As a historian, he has written on sport and culture in modern Britain and France, and the history of guiding in London. He is a convenor on the Institute of Historical Research’s Sport and Leisure seminar series and co-host of the ‘Sport in History’ podcast.

Bikes (including folding bikes) and scooters are not permitted. There are bike racks located along Royal Hospital Road. These can be used to secure any bikes and scooters.
Please do not secure any bikes or scooters to the railings outside the Royal Hospital Chelsea or Burton Court. Any items secure to these railings will be removed.
Walks will continue in wet conditions, so please dress appropriately.
Please adhere to the age range specified for events on the listings page and if appropriate please book a ticket for your child. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult approved by the parent/guardian. This person can accompany a maximum of four children per event. Where permitted, any child over the age of two needs their own seat for events.
The event organiser cannot be responsible for unsupervised children.
